Dr. Saleh Salmanpour – PhD. Aeronautics Engineering, Imperial College London

I joined Stirling Infrastructure to gain exposure to the corporate world with an investment banking flavour. During my time at the firm, I had a unique opportunity to interact with key stakeholders, including client meetings with the CEOs of major EPC contractors and energy companies. Having been given responsibility from the very onset, I was able to take ownership of significant tasks and have a tangible impact on the closely-knit team at Stirling Infrastructure. I was able to build on my existing analytical abilities while developing the required skills for deal analysis, risk mitigation and financial modelling. Within the role, I had the flexibility to focus on areas that resonated with my future career aspirations and gain in-depth exposure to the energy sector and international markets.

Nabeel Nauzer — BSc. Economics, LSE (Scholarship Winner)

My summer internship at Stirling Infrastructure was undoubtedly a very rewarding and immensely useful experience. From the first day, I was involved in projects within the renewables sector, from conducting a full due diligence checklist assessing various risks to performing financial analysis on live M&A transactions. I was invited to attend a conference on Project Finance, listening to directors and partners of various infrastructure related funds discuss their opinions on the current market and their opinions on specific topics of interest. I participated in conference calls with clients from the Middle East to East Asia, and attended meetings with prospective investors, learning about their requirements and topics of significance. I also learnt a significant amount about the energy and infrastructure market from the supply chain to the major market players, and I worked on a research report about the European energy demand outlook. I produced official engagement documents, highlighting the significance of LNG and regions of significance for executives of major oil companies to view. My Excel and Bloomberg Terminal skills have significantly improved as a result of the live transactional experience to which I was exposed. My internship was an invaluable insight into investment banking within Renewable Energy and LNG markets, and it will definitely help me whatever career I decide to pursue.

Jingyan Chen – MSc. Finance, Imperial College London and CFA Candidate.

I participated in the intern programme at Stirling Infrastructure this summer, and my role mainly focuses on doing research and analysing financial models in the energy sector. I think Stirling Infrastructure provides an excellent opportunity for those who are interested in the investment banking industry and want to get lots of hands-on experience within a relatively short time. At Stirling Infrastructure, I worked as a part of the team, and I was able to take part in live transactions and get lots of exposure to real deals. The tasks here are both challenging and exciting. Doing an internship here, you do not expect to do repetitive work. Instead, I am able to work on a wide range of core projects. For example, during my time here, I conducted an in-depth analysis of two financial models for wind farm assets. It is really fascinating and intriguing to deal with these complex projects and to gain some industry knowledge besides my own major. In addition, I carried out research on the global energy markets and analysed the competition between markets. All of my work was related to deals in the Transaction Services team and was presented to clients directly.

Furthermore, I supported and discussed the valuation and the model in detail with clients via conference calls. I am also able to participate in some conferences, discussions with industry experts, and even the negotiations with counterparties, which are really good exposures for my future career. Mr Stirling, CEO of Stirling Infrastructure, is a very experienced professional in M&A, law, and tax, and he is very approachable. He gave lots of helpful guidance on deals and careers to me, and also introduced his professional contacts to me. I had a really valuable experience in SIP, and I recommend Stirling Infrastructure to ambitious professionals and students.

Alicia de Mora Losana — BSc. (Hons) Economics and Management Kings College London

My experience at Stirling Infrastructure has been exactly what a third-year with a passion for the financial sector might be searching for. Stirling Infrastructure has given me an insight into how financial advisory firms work, specifically those with a focus on real assets. It has allowed me to develop my research, analytical and critical-thinking skills as well as my communication competencies. I’ve had the opportunity to learn about the development of infrastructure projects and their importance to investors and to society, by not only using extensive and accurate research to create proposals for investors and presentations but by having the chance to be present in meetings with large corporations ever since the start of my Analyst role.

Due to my position at Stirling Infrastructure, a firm with a supportive work environment and plenty of opportunities for involvement, I now feel more prepared for the start of my professional career in the financial sector after graduation.

Susan Chen — BSc. Economics, LSE (Prize Winner)

The internship at Stirling Infrastructure has been an incredibly insightful view into infrastructure and real estate as asset classes. During my time at Stirling Infrastructure, I have been involved on live M&A transactions, preparing preliminary due diligence questions on the buy-side of the acquisition of a renewables portfolio in Europe, as well as preparing various teaser documents to send to institutional investors. This hands-on experience is something I would not have had the opportunity to be involved in at other internships as a university student, and having this kind of deal exposure has allowed me to broaden my knowledge of what happens during a live M&A deal.

Furthermore, I have been able to develop my technical knowledge and research skills through research on the key trends within the energy market, in particular, the energy and infrastructure market. Through reading various research papers and using Bloomberg terminals to support this process, I was able to produce a presentation on the value chain of infrastructure supply chains, and identify strategic investment opportunities to energy companies.  During my time here, I also had the opportunity to attend the conferences, which had speakers attending from various firms around the world that were investing in infrastructure globally. This allowed me to gain an insight into the relevant themes within the infrastructure market, such as PPPs, renewable energy transportation and infrastructure assets.

Maxie Chopard – University College London LLB Hons Law, LPC – Distinction

I thoroughly enjoyed my internships at Stirling Infrastructure. I was given real responsibility in a supportive environment where every individual’s contribution is valued. Through challenging tasks ranging from drafting engagement letters and confidentiality agreements to legal research on commercial issues, I felt that I was able to apply what I had learnt on the LPC while gaining exposure to the different types of transactions the firm handles.

Although I was a legal intern, Michael took every chance to involve me in transactions. I sat in on client calls and meetings, attended industry events and participated in internal training sessions through which I deepened my understanding of the energy and infrastructure sectors. As a future trainee solicitor, this improved commercial awareness will enable me to provide practical advice to my clients. I would recommend the internship to anyone who is looking for a hands-on learning experience.

Tian Ma — BA Jurisprudence, Oxford

Over the past months, I have been attending an investment banking internship with Stirling Infrastructure Partners under CEO Mr Michael Stirling’s direct supervision. This internship has been a transformative experience for me.

When I joined SIP in my first year of university, I had little exposure to the investment banking world and was keen to explore the finance industry in practice. I was encouraged to gain knowledge across various sectors by carrying in in-depth industry research from Fintech and Enterprise Software to transport infrastructure and energy markets by working at Stirling infrastructure. Under Michael’s patient guidance, I was able to gain an in-depth understanding of how these industries worked and speak and present to some market-leading individuals working in these sectors and engage them in discussions about our research findings.

Michael has been a tremendous mentor over the course. Even though I was only a first-year when I started at SIP, Michael consistently encouraged me to develop myself proactively in research about markets and transactions that the firm is involved in and develop my perspectives and analyses. I had the opportunity to collaborate with teammates to create and publish research briefings and work with experienced financiers to build a proprietary set of financial metrics to assist clients in capital raising.

Through the experience, I have gained many insights into various markets and industries and better understand the practical aspects of an investment banking career and improve my skills in financial research, writing, and presentation. I believe that these skills will become invaluable assets in my career in the future.
